HOUGHTON, N.Y., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dr. Keith A. Horn, former division vice president and director of commercial technology for Corning Incorporated in Corning, NY has been named Associate Dean of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, effective November 3, 2009.

"He brings his expertise as a chemist, his passion for the sciences, his global experience, and a background which enables him to build bridges between Houghton College and the larger academic and business world."
Horn, who graduated from Houghton College in 1975, will be responsible for leadership of the natural sciences and mathematics, including strategic planning, programmatic and faculty development and the expansion of facilities to accommodate growth. He will also assist with advancement efforts to secure resources for programmatic and facilities development, endowment and scholarships.

Horn received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Houghton College and a doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Illinois. Following a National Institutes of Health Postdoctoral Fellowship at The Ohio State University, he joined the faculty of the Tufts University Chemistry Department in 1981, where he taught for four years. Horn then spent 12 years in the Research and Development organization of AlliedSignal, Inc. in Morristown, N.J., where he was responsible for research efforts in photochemistry, organic synthesis and non-linear optics.
In 1997, Horn joined Corning Incorporated where over the last 12 years he has held a variety of senior management positions in research and commercial technology development organizations. Most recently, Horn was the division vice president and director of commercial technology for the Environmental Technologies Division. Horn has had extensive experience managing research and product development in North America, Europe, Russia and Asia.
Horn is the author of 38 scientific articles in refereed journals and holds 13 U.S. patents. He has held memberships in the SAE, American Chemical Society, Phi Lambda Upsilon, Sigma Chi and SPIE.
