WASHINGTON, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Former Congressman Sherwood Boehlert, Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Policy Center's (BPC) National Transportation Policy Project (NTPP), will testify tomorrow to the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act (S. 1733). The hearing will begin at 9:30 AM on Thursday, October 29, 2009 in the EPW Hearing Room, 406 Dirksen. His remarks will be made during the second panel of the full committee hearing which focuses on the transportation sections of the climate change bill.

Former Congressman Boehlert's testimony will detail the importance of merging transportation, energy, and environmental issues in the legislation. He will also address the relationship of NTPP's recent report, "Performance Driven: A New Vision for U.S. Transportation Policy," and its recommendations that relate to transportation provisions of the bill. NTPP's work is a blueprint for creating a national transportation system that is efficient, effective, and accountable for performance. Together, energy security and environmental protection represent one of five national goals that NTPP believes should be used to guide federal transportation policies and investment decisions.

Along with former Congressman Boehlert, the NTPP is led by co-chairs: former Senator Slade Gorton; former Mayor of Detroit Dennis Archer; and former Congressman Martin Sabo, and is composed of a broad, bipartisan coalition of transportation experts and business and civic leaders.
