Human Relations Commission Orders International House of Pancakes to Pay Over $29,000 in Pregnancy Discrimination CasePRNewswireHARRISBURG, Pa.Oct. 27

HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission has ordered Pyramid Operating Group Inc., doing business as International House of Pancakes in Warrington, Bucks County, to pay former employee Jennifer Beck, also of Warrington, $28,478 plus interest for discriminating against her by terminating her job because of her pregnancy.

"Simply put, it is illegal to discriminate against an employee because she is pregnant," Chairperson Stephen A. Glassman said. "In this instance, the employer not only terminated a pregnant employee, but failed to meet their legal obligation to answer a complaint filed against them."

The commission found International House of Pancakes liable for illegal sex discrimination against Beck and ordered the business to:

-- Cease and desist discriminating against employees because of sex and pregnancy; -- Pay Beck $28,478 in back pay plus six percent per annum from the date of her termination, May 12, 2008, until payment is made; -- Reinstate Beck into the next available waitress position and pay her $437 per week until she accepts or rejects an offer or one year passes; and -- Reimburse Beck $20 for travel expenses.

International House of Pancakes has 30 days to report to the commission on how it will comply with the order.
