DETROIT, Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Forgotten Harvest of Metro Detroit has named Russ W. Russell as Chief Development Officer. He will be responsible for planning and managing all fundraising, public relations, government and marketing activities including those designed to promote the nonprofit agency's perishable food collection and distribution programs serving over 12.5 million meals to 155 partner agencies in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

Russell's 30 years of extensive fundraising experience includes time as Vice President of Development, Public Relations and Marketing for Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit and as Executive Director of Development for The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division and as co-founder of Cross International headquartered in Southern Florida. "Russell's passion and creative efforts to assist the poor in over 17 countries and his 6 years in Southeast Michigan will be a great asset to Forgotten Harvest's mission to feed the hungry of Southeast Michigan," said Susan Goodell, Executive Director, Forgotten Harvest. Recently the United Way declared food as the #1 need in the region.

Russell received his BA in Business and Education at Mid America Nazarene University in 1982.

Forgotten Harvest was formed in 1990 to fight two problems: hunger and waste. Forgotten Harvest "rescued" more than 12.5 million pounds of food last year by collecting surplus prepared and perishable food from over 400 sources, including grocery stores, fruit and vegetable markets, restaurants, caterers, dairies, farmers, wholesale food distributors, and other Health Department-approved sources. This donated food, which would otherwise go to waste, is delivered absolutely free-of-charge to 155 emergency food providers in the Metro Detroit area. The individuals and families served are as diverse as the community's residents - young and old, from all races and faiths. The common bond uniting the donor and the hungry is Forgotten Harvest.
