PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following release was issued today by the School District of Philadelphia, Reform Commission Chairperson Robert L. Archie Jr., CEO/Superintendent Dr. Arlene Ackerman and Philadelphia Federation of Teachers President Jerry T. Jordan:

The Philadelphia Federation of Teachers and the School District of Philadelphia have agreed to an extension of their current collective bargaining agreement. The contract is now scheduled to expire on November 30, 2009.

The extension maintains the same wages, health benefits and working conditions stipulated under the agreement currently in effect for PFT members.

The School District and the PFT are continuing to work together to negotiate a multiyear contract that will improve students' academic achievement and create working conditions that help the District recruit and retain the best teachers and staff.
