Formed in 1972, the IICRC is the standard-setting agency and certification registry for the inspection, cleaning and restoration industries. The association currently boasts more than 4,600 member firms and 43,000 certified technicians in 30 countries. Its mission is to hold member firms to the highest standards of performance and ethics and to advance communication and technical proficiencies across these sectors. Consumers who select IICRC firms or technicians are assured that all work completed will be done in accordance with the IICRC's standard of care.
"I chose Pete as the IICRC representative for the SCRT (Society of Cleaning and Restoration Technicians), the largest and only international trade association, because of his dedication to our industry," said Gary Glenn, president of the SCRT's executive committee. "He is truly a professional in an industry, for the most part, that tends to fly by the seat of its pants. He brings professionalism, knowledge, stability and the ability to get things done to the industry. Even though the bulk of the SCRT is made up of independents, I felt, as did my board members, that Pete represented the industry not just a franchise organization."
As Director of Training and Technical Support for the ServiceMaster Clean disaster restoration division, Duncanson is responsible for technical development for the Disaster Restoration program and systems. Additionally, Duncanson is responsible for all of the department training, which includes new franchise owners, existing owners and he also has trained agents and adjusters from major insurance companies. Duncanson also serves as an advisor to owners for water, mold and specialty loss situations and has been called upon by insurance companies to provide consulting services when other restoration companies are performing the recovery services.
Additionally, Duncanson holds many industry certifications including Master Water Restorer, Master Fire and Smoke Restorer and Master Textile Cleaner through the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and is a CRM (Certified Mold Remediator) and CMRS (Certified Mold Remediation Supervisor) through the Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA). He also is a certified instructor through the IICRC in Water, Fire and Odor Control and is recognized by OSHA to teach the OSHA General Industry Outreach Safety Course.
Michael Isakson, president and chief operating officer of ServiceMaster Clean, said the appointment is a natural progression for Duncanson, as the director of training has always embraced the art of teaching. "Pete is a dynamic leader at ServiceMaster Clean, and he leads first and foremost by example," said Isakson. "He absolutely thrives on the challenges thrown at him by these industries, and he'll be the first to admit he learns the most from being right there in the middle of a disaster. From the time he served on the Pentagon clean-up post-9/11 to the direction he provided in Galveston after Hurricane Ike, he loves to learn and that's what makes him successful."
Duncanson added that while the pressure to deliver is even greater now, he is proud to say he is able to take a more active part in determining the course of the cleaning and restoration industries.
"It is truly an honor to be asked to serve in this capacity," said Duncanson. "I've always considered myself a steward of the inspection, cleaning and restoration industries, but this appointment by the IICRC formally confirms that role. Moving forward, it is incumbent upon me to utilize my experience and skill sets to the fullest in order to hold our member firms and technicians to the highest levels of excellence.
"Quite frankly, I have been preparing myself my entire career for this type of challenge. We are in the business of getting people's lives back on track - restoring their peace of mind. And I cannot think of a nobler endeavor."
