Work scheduled to start around Nov. 8
CONCORD, Mass., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Narraguagus River Federal Navigation Project in Milbridge, Maine, will be dredged under the terms of a $1,369,100 contract issued recently by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District.
The maintenance dredging, which will be accomplished by Prock Marine Company of Rockland, Maine, will begin on or about Nov. 8, 2009 and take about 2 to 3 months to complete.
"The work consists of dredging about 65,000 cubic yards of silt, clay and sand and possibly some boulders and debris, from the 11-foot West Anchorage, 6-foot Southwest Anchorage, and portions of the 11-foot Channel," said Project Manager Jack Karalius, of the Corps' New England District, Programs/Project Management Division.
The dredged material will be removed using a mechanical dredge and scows. Disposal will be at the Douglas Island Disposal Site in Narraguagus Bay, about 6 miles away. The environmental dredging and disposal window when work can be performed is from Nov. 8 to April 9.
All work will be accomplished under the supervision of a Corps of Engineers Quality Assurance Representative to assure compliance with contract requirements.
