-- Panel dismisses all opponents' complaints against Issue 3 supporters --
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- An Ohio Elections Commission panel today found probable cause that statements made by the so-called "TruthPAC," the committee primarily funded by West Virginia-based gambling interests, were false.
The panel also dismissed a series of charges filed by TruthPAC against the Ohio Jobs and Growth Committee (OJGC), the committee sponsoring State Issue 3.
Referred to the full Elections Commission for a hearing were:
-- Statements by "TruthPAC" co-chair Sen. Teresa Fedor that
misrepresented the union labor record of Penn National Gaming, one of
the principal sponsors of Issue 3;
-- A statement by "TruthPAC" co-chair Rep. Lou Blessing that
falsely claimed cash wagering was "mandated" in the proposed
constitutional amendment;
-- Ads placed on a web site by "TruthPAC" which did not contain
the complete disclaimer required by Ohio law.
The panel declined to find probable cause on statements by both sides concerning the job-creation aspects of Issue 3.
"This is further evidence that we have been honest and open in our campaign, and that the so-called 'TruthPAC' continues to lie," said Charlie Luken, OJGC chairman. "This time an official state agency has held them accountable by finding probable cause."
No date was immediately set for the full Ohio Elections Commission hearing on the allegations against "TruthPAC."
