HACKENSACK, N.J., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Beckerman, one of the largest independent public relations firms in the New York metropolitan area, has announced that Joanne Kaniewski of Bayonne, N.J., and Jason Heller of Fair Lawn, N.J., have joined the firm.

Beckerman is the one of largest independent public relations agencies in the nation. The firm employs more than 40 public relations professionals and represents over 100 clients in a wide range of industry sectors, including real estate, legal services, financial services, renewable energy, technology, health care and consumer products.
The firm has offices in both New York and New Jersey. Beckerman has additionally been very busy on the acquisition front, having recently closed on the purchase of two public relations firms.
As an account executive, Kaniewski supports client public relations programs in the business-to-business, not-for-profit, consumer and health care sectors by providing strategic support, media relations and graphic design capabilities.
Kaniewski began her public relations career as an intern at Avalanche Strategic Communications. She was later promoted to assistant account executive and then to account executive. Most recently Kaniewski has been working as an adjunct professor of Speech Communication as Critical Citizenship at Kean University in Union, N.J., a role in which she will continue in her spare time.
Prior to joining Avalanche, Kaniewski was a public relations specialist at Saint Peter's College in Jersey City, N.J., where she worked closely with the director, Webmaster and student body. During her time at Saint Peter's, she helped increase awareness of the college by composing newsletters and press releases and coordinating interviews for faculty and administrators.
Kaniewski is a graduate of Kean University, from which she holds a master's degree in organizational communication.
Heller has been working as an intern at Beckerman since 2007, assisting with accounts in the real estate, professional services and non-profit sectors. He is a recent graduate of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J., where he majored in communications with a concentration in public relations. At Rutgers, he was a member of the Todd Hunt chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America.
In addition to his intern experience, Heller brings to Beckerman his expertise in social networking and digital media.
