ATLANTA, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- USCarrier Telecom, LLC, a Southeastern wholesale provider of high-speed, long-haul, optical transport has today announced the company has been awarded a contract from the City of Savannah to provide a 50 MG Internet transport circuit from Savannah to Atlanta. USCarrier was in competition for the city government's contract with several vendors, one of which was the incumbent.
A recently constructed USCarrier metro fiber ring in Savannah was an easy link to the city's data center which was virtually next to the fiber construction. USCarrier's sales team led by Tina Mayfield, sales engineering and outside plant engineering met with the City of Savannah to chart an accelerated roll-out of the circuit. Less than 21 days had elapsed from the time the order was placed, to construction and final connection to the City's data center.
The City of Savannah's network supports 2000 users at over 120 locations throughout the area. The City primarily uses fiber optic backhaul to connect these sites to their new data center. Additionally, they have an increased number of mobile applications which include public safety, inspections, and public works. This trend requires that the City has the bandwidth to support these applications and that it is highly available.
According to Greg Frikor, Director of Sales for USCarrier, "We are extremely pleased to be awarded this contract from The City of Savannah. Our sales, engineering and provisioning teams worked diligently for over a year to win this bid." He added, "Our focus has always been the telecom carrier business, but this presented a unique opportunity and great fit to expand our base of customers to include government entities."
"We are extremely pleased with USCarrier Telecom's professionalism and expertise in meeting such an aggressive deadline. One of the things that impressed us most about working with USCarrier Telecom was their superior communication both internally and externally. Our future plans with USCarrier Telecom include increasing bandwidth, adding diverse routes into our data center, and procuring dedicated bandwidth for disaster recovery," said Kevin Ferris, Network Engineer - City of Savannah IT Department.
USCarrier upgraded a 386 route mile stretch of their existing SONET network from Atlanta to Augusta to Savannah. This upgraded service will meet any future demands from the City of Savannah and additional customers in the area.
