Azalea Networks and China Unicom Team Up to Bring City of Yangzhou Benefits of Wireless Network

MILPITAS, Calif., May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Government officials in the City of Yangzhou recently announced the initial phase of a high-speed wireless broadband network throughout the city. The project is a joint effort, managed and deployed by China Unicom, a telecommunications company, and Azalea Networks, a leading innovator in wireless routing equipment and technology. The "Wireless Yangzhou" project will offer reliable wireless communications to municipal workers, emergency personnel, and citizens seeking high-speed, wireless Internet access.

Yangzhou joins other major metropolitan areas in China in its "informatization" efforts to develop the infrastructure necessary to support widespread wireless communications that keep people connected. Partnering with operators at the China Unicom Yangzhou branch, Azalea Networks organized a task force to design and deploy the city's wireless solution, incorporating areas including the Yangzhou Municipal Government buildings and important surrounding venues.

China Unicom, planning to provide telecommunication services via the wireless network, tested the initial phase. "The results showed that even mobile video monitoring, optimized with Azalea's video technology (AVT(TM)) platform, could deliver reliable, uninterrupted DVD-quality transmissions," reported Zhou Taiqun, deputy general manager of the China Unicom Yangzhou Branch. "This wireless network will support municipal projects, E-business, public construction, medical personnel, and local citizens," he added.

Personnel from the Yangzhou Information Technology Office indicated the impact that "Wireless Yangzhou" will have on the citizens and municipal personnel throughout the city.
