Blunt: Congress Has Obligation to Pass Clean Supplemental Bill for Our Troops

WASHINGTON, May. 01 /PRNewswire/ --

WASHINGTON, May 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- House Republican Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.) issued the following statement today highlighting the continued and sustained progress being made by our men and women in Iraq, and underscoring the need for Congress to pass a clean slate of resources for our troops as soon as possible:

"While Democrats in Washington spend today playing politics with Iraq, the rest of the country remains committed to making sure our troops have the chance to return home safe, secure and successful in their mission.

"Consistent with those goals, Congress has a clear and vital obligation to ensure our men and women in harm's way have access to everything they need, when and where they need it. What they need from this Congress right now is not another declaration of defeat or timeline for surrender; what they need is the resources to get the job done, and the resolve of this chamber to get them there as quickly and efficiently as possible.

"That tremendous progress continues to be made in Iraq is obvious - and it's a fact that fewer and fewer Democrats are willing to deny. Thankfully, Congress finds itself in a unique position to help and support the men and women who forged that progress - and that starts with passing a clean troop supplemental bill as soon as we can."
